K9 fishing in the dark! Having proficiency in lon K9 fishing in the dark! Having proficiency in long line management along with k9 obedience can make checking danger areas a hell of a lot safer. K9’s are the best search tool out there when used properly. Having a k9 on a call should never be a driver for tactics or trump officer safety. Make training challenging and messy. It will pay off when needed! E mail ray@hrdpolicek9.com for hosting info! #k9 #policek9 #policek9training #hrdpolicek9
HRD day 2 wake up call!!!! We love to hit it hard HRD day 2 wake up call!!!! We love to hit it hard early on day 2 with Handler Drum Circle. Great drill to see if your dog will commit to a staple bite with extreme distraction. This can easily be scaled on the fly for young dogs or dogs that are struggling. Biggest issue we see here are dogs not willing to take a leg bite. This is a problem at almost every seminar and is a direct result of not having access to quality decoys to work all target areas. If this is a problem with your dog you will lose 50 percent of your target area unless you work to change that . It will not just go away! Next seminar May 19-21 Surprise,AZ E mail ray@hrdpolicek9.com to host your own seminar! #hrdpolicek9 #policek9training #k9 #policek9 #k9training #scenariobasedtraining

Go ahead and run!!!! Gladiator Pit drill being r Go ahead and run!!!! Gladiator Pit drill being run at the recent HRD seminar in Edmonton, Alberta Canada. This drill is a great confidence builder for K9’s. It is a combo of a fended and equipment shedding drill that should be done with an experienced decoy. Decoy needs to be aware of avoidance signs and adjust to prey accordingly depending on the dog. Next seminar is May 19-21 in Surprise, AZ. E mail ray@hrdpolicek9.com if interested in hosting a seminar for your department or training group. #policek9training #policek9training #k9 #policek9 #k9training

This is a tough watch! Officer Ware came to our s This is a tough watch! Officer Ware came to our seminar in Rock Hill to share the incident the resulted in K9 Bumi being shot and killed. This team attended a previous seminar and he wanted to help others with his story. We are sharing it in hopes that it will ignite that spark to change the way you are training if it is not for street readiness. You can do everything right (as this team did) and still get hurt or killed in this job. Stack the cards in your favor and ensure your k9 partner is ready for the violence it will eventually face on the street. Ted and I do this because of this kind of feedback. The brave men and women that do this job deserve better when it comes to training. Our hope is that one day certification will look more like actual deployments. In the meantime don’t expect your department or anyone else to push you to that place of readiness. It is up to you to set that standard and exceed it! I am humbled and honored to work around professionals that “get it”. The teams hungry for more, the decoys donating blood, and admins that see the value in a well trained K-9 unit. We are not playing games at our seminars and take it very seriously because we know how catastrophic a failed deployment can be. Watch this and ask yourself are you really doing all you can to be ready? This isn’t about Instagram fame or sizzle reels it is about being good vs being lucky. Email ray@hrdpolicek9.com for info on hosting a seminar in your area! #hrdpolicek9 #policek9training #k9 #policek9 #k9training #scenariobasedtraining
What it looks like when a dog has been conditioned What it looks like when a dog has been conditioned to bite a distorted target presentation! The Zombie Walk and Blair Witch are staple drills at our HRD seminars. We are asking these dogs to engage and commit to biting human odor vs a normal target presentation. Bad guys love to wrap themselves up in tarps and carpets to try to avoid detection from a k9. If you are not training your dog to deal with this you should. The key to success is planning and real time scaling depending on what the dog is showing you. New dogs will need help to get to this level on the video posted. Next seminar is February 10-12 in Ellis County, Texas E mail ray@hrdpolicek9.com if interested in decoying this event or hosting your own seminar! #k9 #policek9training #k9training #hrdpolicek9
Decoys are the un sung heros in the k9 world. With Decoys are the un sung heros in the k9 world. With out them there is no k9. Unfortunately departments treat this as an after thought and don’t budget for their time and expertise and elect to do it on their own with no training or guidance. It is a problem that we are working to improve as an industry. We have worked with hundreds of decoys at our seminars and a lot say they only do it for the teams. However, the number that actually mean it is a lot lower. This particular crew and a few dozen others actually mean it. They take the blood and bruises as a badge of honor to potentially save a k9 team’s life. I am humbled to work around these professionals with that much passion. Decoying for police k9 is not about being an Instagram hero but being about that team that is struggling due to lack of funding or resources. If you are a handler take a min to personally thank a decoy or two that has helped you along the way! #k9 #policek9 #policek9decoy #hrdpolicek9
The “Island” drill! This exposure drill is perfec The “Island” drill! This exposure drill is perfect to show handlers how difficult it can be to fight off your back with a dog on suspect. We intentionally don’t use mats because you are not gonna use them in the street and sport jujitsu is not always the best answer. It is also a confidence booster to know your dog will not transfer or come off the bite. We always test the dogs with drum circle prior to this drill. There are also always 2 safety people involved to keep dog and handlers safe as possible. Getting a few bumps and bruises in training is better than bleeding on the street. Train hard! #k9 #policek9 #policek9training #hrdpolicek9
Looking into 2025…. Ted and I are coming up on be Looking into 2025…. Ted and I are coming up on being in front of 2000 teams in the US and Canada since 2018. Based on feedback we have received I like to think we have moved the needle on the way a lot of teams train. Seeing lights being turned off, environmental distractions, and not just training for certification. There still is so much that can get better. Hopefully one day certification will look a lot like our training with an emphasis on street readiness. Admins like to check boxes. Imagine if certifying bodies gave admins the right boxes to check? Clearly define skill sets for both k9 and handler and vendors would also have to step up their game and sell to that standard. Decoys. If a department is budgeting for a K-9 unit then having money to train, equip, and/or pay for quality decoying is essential to success period. Throwing a rookie in a fat suit to get rag dolled is not decoying. These departments wonder why the dog they got from a vendor with the impressive bite work is now biting shallow or transferring. If they don’t have the funding it is better to scrap the unit and save that dog from being hurt or killed. K9 training is for both the handler and the dog. It is on the handler to prep his partner for the fight of his life. If not they will show up to a call to play their “game” of tug and get killed due to laziness of their handler. Finishing green dogs. If a department doesn’t have the time, skill sets, or resources to actually do the job then buy a finished product with clearly defined street goals. If there is “no budget” for this then they are better off spending the money on a TicTok dance team or Coffee with a Cop program. There are some very good programs out there and others that have a lot to be desired. No time soon do I see departments as a whole actually caring about your training. Take it upon yourself to set and or raise the standards. The life you save maybe your own or your partner! Train hard!!! #k9 #policek9 #policek9training #hrdpolicek9

Remember what you are training for! That rep you Remember what you are training for! That rep you are putting in training maybe for the worst day of your life. Get into that mindset when it is time to train. Don’t just go thru the motions. If asked to role play then role play to the best of your ability. Don’t get caught up in your own ego. Remember that training is also for other teams and your k9 partner. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes or “look dumb “ as that is the place for it. Hold yourself to a high standard and when it all goes to shit you will be ready. Don’t expect your department or even your training group to push you to that level of excellence. It is on you to make it happen. You owe it to your k9 to be ready for the darkness that is out there.
